WELTSTUDIO
How is your life connected to Berlin? And where do those connections reach across the world?
At the WELTSTUDIO, you can join in, experiment and share your own perspective. This open space is part of the Berlin Exhibition at the Humboldt Forum. Across 500 square metres, workshops, spontaneous activities and collaborative projects come together. It is a place where people from across the city meet, exchange experiences and develop new ideas.
An overview of the WELTSTUDIO
At the heart of the WELTSTUDIO is a simple question: how are Berlin and the world connected? Here, you can make your own stories, thoughts and aspirations visible, start conversations with others and take part yourself.
Three large-scale installations shape the space. They invite you to rethink what a map can be. Because maps do more than show places. They can also reveal relationships, experiences and different ways of seeing the world.
Body Cartographer
What traces has the world left in your life?At the Body Cartographer, you create a personal map. Using life-sized body outlines, you can show the places, people and experiences that connect you to the wider world. Stencils, stamps, paper, card and pens are all available to help you get started. The result is a map filled with memories, experiences and hopes for the future. These personal creations are displayed in the WELTSTUDIO, making a wide range of perspectives visible to everyone.
Weaving Cartographer
What do you think about Berlin? At the Weaving Cartographer, visitors weave their responses to different questions into large textile maps. With every new thread, the collective picture continues to grow. Colours, materials and patterns reflect the many different ways people experience the city. Individual contributions come together to create a map that tells stories of both shared and contrasting experiences.
Rolling Cartographer
Do you know a place others should discover? The Rolling Cartographer is both a marble run and a map archive. Here, you can leave a hand-drawn route to one of your favourite places. It might lead to a hidden park bench in Madrid, a beloved ice cream parlour in São Paulo or somewhere that matters to you for an entirely different reason. Your sketch is stored inside a small wooden sphere. When you send your message on its journey, you receive another visitor’s route in return. In this way, personal recommendations from around the world travel through the WELTSTUDIO.
Alongside BERLIN GLOBAL, we offer a varied programme of public tours, talks, inclusive events and many free activities. The WELTSTUDIO also hosts regular drop-in sessions and workshops for school groups. People of all ages are welcome.
Enjoy exploring, experimenting and creating together.
